At the start of 2023 I was sure the world would change by the end of 2023. Few new trends, and lots of acceleration of old trends. Of course, in 2023, even 2021 seems old. AI is now ubiquitous. Climate change is speeding up, convincing more of its reality, and forcing awareness as insurance companies respond to the inadequacy of their old models. Social injustice is becoming more apparent, with the positive consequence that citizens are demanding responsible and ethical governance – while others head to extremes of ideology regardless of the impact. The middle is a lonely place, but it may become attractive.

Notice that more recent posts aren’t generating as much traffic. That’s partly because there are fewer of them. The intent of this blog is to chronicle news that is significant, factual, and apolitical. Significant is an easy hurdle because so the world is more aware of the world, and we’re more interconnected. Factual has become more of an issue because commentary has become more popular than analyses. Apolitical has been the biggest constraint on what to post. Politics pervades in ways that exceed what came before. 2024 leads to elections, hearings are leading to indictments, advocacy is revealing corruption, and the news has much to say, but says it emphasizing rather than minimizing ideologies. That’s probably worth a post, too.
Take care. Be aware.
