Holograms are awesome, but have always been only visual. Star Trek’s Holodeck was incredible because users could touch and be touched by the creation. Just like Holodeck, combining technologies increases the sensory experience – in the real world. Japanese developers have invented a touchable hologram. The image is created by light. The illusion of something touchable is created by ultrasound. The applications are limited to only soft touches; but, as with most technologies, the capabilities will expand. Eventually, it may enable feeling objects that are inaccessible because of distance or danger. Welcome to 2016.
