Earthquakes happen, and not just in Southern California. Data tells more of a story than the media can. The media has time and space limitations. Data however is available that fills in the blanks. Earthquakes happen throughout the world. The distribution of risk within the US shows that it isn’t just the coast or plate boundaries that shake. The places that are talked about as targets: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle also spend considerable resources on preparation and education. The less well-known areas can be at higher risk because building codes aren’t in place and residents aren’t informed.
