“In the North Atlantic, the number of storms that quickly intensified from Category 1 (or weaker) into a major hurricane has more than doubled in 2001-2020 compared to 1971-1990.”

Scientists can show connections to climate change and oceans warming, but at times like Hurricane Milton when millions are having to evacuate Florida, it is too late to debate the cause. The effect is worsening.

The linked article provides supporting data. Regardless of that, all most of us can do is wish those people good luck and a safe evacuation – and the hope that they have a home to return to.

  1. There’s much more that we can do. We can stop adding to the problem of climate change. Every day. We can support organizations that are working to address these issues. And most important, we can elect people who take a much more proactive approach to the whole problem.
