Check our assumptions. Of course skinny people are healthier than fat people. Right? Maybe not. Obesity is bad, but so is anorexia. In the middle though, data continues to suggest that being mildly ‘overweight’ is actually a healthy condition – possibly because the body has more resources to use when illness strikes. Axioms of health can become so ingrained that we forget they are based on opinion, not fact; and that when data are analyzed a different reality is revealed. Skinny has been in fashion for a few decades, but that wasn’t always the case. Now, data may suggest a new model of health, one that is counter to convention.
