Einstein’s proof that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light is true. Just as was demonstrated with Bell’s Theorem, the speed can be exceed, but not by things, but by information in Bell’s case – and now by waves. Harvard has demonstrated a way to squeeze light.
“This doesn’t mean light itself is traveling faster than the speed of light, which would violate the laws of relativity. “Phase velocity” refers to the speed of the crest of waves that ripple out when light strikes a material. The Harvard scientists created a material that allows these wave crests to move infinitely fast. This is a strange thought to wrap your head around, and means the crests of the waves are oscillating through time, but not space.” – Quartz
The trick is partly in the material they developed. There is now the potential to manipulate photons as easily as we manipulate electrons, and to create devices that operate at far higher speeds – as if the world wasn’t operating fast enough.
