From 30% to 40% of all food grown is wasted, either through damage in transport and storage, spoilage, people buying more than they can use, etc. There are also more than enough people who could use that food, but getting it to them is a problem, especially in disaster zones. Freeze drying works, but students in Sweden went further and made it even easier to transport by turning the food into powder. The food is spray-dried instead of freeze-dried, allowed to sublimate, then turned into a powder and shipped. Most of the original nutrition remains even though none of the original form does. No refrigeration required. Preparation is dramatically eased. Next, scaling it up enough to make a difference.
