Climate change is expecting to require about 200 million people to relocate by 2050. That relocation is not simple, easy, or without stress. The US Department of Defense is recognizing that, while climate change is not the sole reason for regional conflicts, it is a multiplier as shifting populations struggle for limited resources. A refugee fleeing one region puts additional strain on their destination. The people already living there may not feel there’s enough to share, and they may be right. Climate change is escalating existing conflicts, and as climate change’s effects become larger, so may the escalations, and therefore the need for defenses.
