As if being in default wasn’t bad enough for the Puerto Rican government, people are moving from the island because of the economy, which is leaving fewer people behind to support the economy, which is making it harder to fund bond payments and social services like health care, which means more doctors are leaving the island, which means the already underserved residents are even more underserved. The repercussions from the debt payments, the lack of federal support, and the strict austerities being imposed by the non-governmental lenders means Puerto Rico’s solutions become less common while its problems proliferate.
