Peak chicken and rice sounds like a recipe, but it is the food equivalent of peak oil. We haven’t reached peak oil yet, but chicken, rice, soybean, and milk production have all plateaued. Rice, 1988; milk, 2004; and chickens, 2006; and soybeans, 2009. Land and water are the limits; but, just like with energy, the easiest way to provide more product for the market is to waste less. About 30% of our food is tossed out. Saving that is easier than growing more chickens.
