Earth Overshoot Day is a mark of how far our civilization was departed from a sustainable system. Ideally, we’d use less than a year’s worth of resources every year. At the balance point, Earth Overshoot Day would be December 31st. We’ve now slipped to July 29th. Until Earth Overshoot Day returns to something to mark on New Year’s Eve, our global lifestyle is not sustainable without finding resources from places beyond Earth.
