If you’re an adult American and feeling down, you’re not alone. Over the last 40 years, older adult Americans have become less optimistic. The cause is uncertain, but it is likely proposed that it is tied to income inequality and the rapid shifts in technology. The mood may also be a reflection of the retirement crisis where so few have enough to retire. Young adult Americans, however, are more optimistic; which may be explained by hope for wage growth, an acceptance of technology, and little thought given to retirement.
