Jobs are seen as the ladder out of poverty, so much of poverty assistance focuses on jobs – which works at least somewhat for the working poor. But, for the unemployed poor, particularly the long term unemployed poor, many of the systems designed to fight poverty aren’t available because they are based on at least some income. Income and wealth inequality expand even within the poor population. Currently, very little is being done; so, within the wealth of America an entire segment of the population is learning to rely on themselves, not their country.
