The use of autonomous autos is happening slowly. The technology exists, but the rules and regulations need to be resolved, and in some cases invented. Niche applications will allow earlier introductions. Road crews frequently work with ‘crash trucks’, trucks designed to be crashed into. The trucks sit behind workers and oncoming traffic, acting as a big buffer, but one that inevitably gets hit. Good news for the workers. Bad news for the driver of the truck. Now, the trucks will drive themselves, slowly following the crews as they work their way up the road – an application that even the drivers are in favor of.
