Global climate change is happening because greenhouse gases like CO2 are accumulating in the atmosphere and raising the global temperature. It sounds like there’s a simple solution: suck the CO2 back out of the atmosphere. Unfortunately, it is too late for that. Various scenarios have been simulated and the results are largely the same. So much CO2 has been put into the atmosphere that the climate and the acidification of the oceans don’t return to pre-Industrial Revolution levels. Two hundred years of pollution can’t be countered by centuries of remediation. It is far easier and more effective to quit putting as much CO2 into the atmosphere.
