As if rising sea levels weren’t enough, Washington, D.C., a nation’s capitol built in a tidal zone in a swamp, was also built on land that is sinking in response to the retreat of the last ice age. Add all the effects together, and DC becomes one of the cities heading more quickly to inundation because it will probably drop six inches in the next century. Debates may continue into cause and effect, but the debators may have to drive through the reality of the situation sooner than others.
