Hackers have, yet again, proved that they can control modern cars via the Internet – including things like the transmission and even the brakes. Surprisingly, the entry for the hack was the entertainment system. As cars become entertainment centers, the entertainment centers are connected to the driver’s functions so the driver can control the entertainment center – as in turning it off, if necessary. The security protocols were insufficient though, so the hackers were able to take over the car, not entirely, but unsafely. As we integrate more of our systems, we create more entry points at the junctures that weaken security and control. Our systems become less stable, and more dangerous.
