It is a simple idea. If you have a garden, plant one of the rows to give away. Food banks and other charities can organize to distribute it, or you can simply pass it along to someone you know needs it. The same is true for gleaning. Many homeowners plant fruit trees and other perennials for ornamentation rather than food production. Volunteers drop by, harvest the fruit, and pass it along. Hungry people are fed. Homeowners have less to clean up. The trees are healthier.
the UN hunger report found the number of hungry people worldwide had dropped significantly, despite ballooning population growth. What did the UN attribute this to?
“Improved agricultural productivity, especially by small and family farmers, leads to important gains in hunger and poverty reduction,”
