In the US, over 25% of renters are spending more than 50% of their income on rent. That’s 11,250,000 households, and necessarily more than that many people. Over 1,800,000 spend more than 70% of their income on rent. The housing crisis tied to the Great Recession was about home ownership. Now, as fewer people are buying homes, and as corporations are turning houses into rentals, a new housing crisis is developing.
