There’s power in that poop. As any composter knows, waste is a resource. There’s also heat in waste water. Vancouver is testing power extraction based on the heat energy within sewer water. Just as Portland is pulling power from fresh water pipes, Vancouver is pulling power from sewer water by pulling the heat of waste water and decaying biomass. Cities are learning that multi-tasking within the infrastructure may be one answer to decreasing their energy demands and increasing their energy independence.
