Some cyber criminals skipped the credit card route and went direct to the bank machines, from the inside. They hacked banks by patiently observing employees emails, making their way in from email accounts and then over to the operations accounts, and got the ATMs to spit out money – possibly as much as $1,000,000,000. Attacks aren’t always dramatic, or involving ID theft. Sometimes they quietly exercise the sophistication of understanding people, and then simply getting the bank to produce the money. As usual, the weakest link in a security system are the people. There’s no limit to the extent of such a hack.
