Inflation is up or down, or moot. We need numbers to govern by, but every individual has a different set of expenses. Health care is less of an issue if you are healthy. Day care is only important if you have a child. Inflation has been low, but different for goods versus services. Many goods are cheaper thanks to technology. Many services are more expensive, like the various cares; e.g. health care, day care. Unfortunately, living in poverty is defined more by those non-negotiable expenses. Living above the poverty line includes discretionary income, which tends to go more towards goods. Poverty becomes more of a trap.
