This isn’t news, and yet it is. Both the globe’s land and ocean temperatures reached new records. (globally: 2.9F, 1.6C) They are both heating up. That’s news. Sadly, there’s no newness to that news because this has been the case for years and decades.

Scientists continue to learn about the various causes and effects, but this is effectively a new field because we didn’t even start accurately measuring such global trends until recent decades. What we do know, is that the trend is up and that the climate and our impacts are a complex system that can’t be ignored.
