People fighting wars (and by extension, crimes) are now using pagers and walkie-talkies as bombs. Members Hezbollah and people who happened to be close to them, were attacked by personal electronic devices that were remotely exploded. Thousands exploded. While this blog prefers to focus on data-driven news, this news is similar to the Slaughterbots described a few years ago (June 2016), a binary event. Warfare has entered a new phase where threats are as likely to be small, innocuous, and ubiquitous, than obvious, expensive, and immense. Exploding personal devices brings terror to every personal device, and probably costs much less than a new aircraft carrier or tank. This may be similar in scope to the now-common drone wars and IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices). The world just got scarier and not demonstrably safer.
