This is a moment I’ve been watching for, when will people hand control of government to an artificial intelligence. Evidently, 2024. A candidate for mayor in Cheyenne, Wyoming is running as a proxy or puppet for an AI. There are issues, there always are. Who really is in charge? Pragmatically, what happens with software and hardware changes? Who gets paid? Responsibility will probably ultimately reside with the person, but if this is a step to a person-less AI, this is the time to consider such things. Stunt or not, it seems to be part of an inevitable trend, especially considering the increasing distrust of politicians. We also don’t totally trust AI, but people do trust software to direct or suggest how to drive, what to cook, what to shop for, who to date, what to buy… Why not how to fix the roads, and whether the roads are more important than healthcare or education? This is one to stay tuned to.
