This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but giving Nature a chance can work. Bluefin tuna were overfished to the point that they were reduced to 2% of the potential in 2009-2012.

People and governments acted.
“…in 2022 the number of spawning bluefin reached 23.2 percent of the potential unfished spawning stock.” – NOAA
It is encouraging to see that extinction is not inevitable – if action is taken in time. But we have to act – and sometimes that action is simply a period of inaction.
