Over 4,000,000 people have died from climate change since 2000. That is a conservative estimate; and that is with an emphasis on conservative, and estimate. The correct number is expected to be much higher, but is hard to calculate. Climate change causes other disasters. So, if a flood or wildfire is caused by climate change, the deaths are counted against floods or fires. The estimate is also expected to be low because recorded deaths are recorded in places where there are resources to count and record the deaths. Deaths in poor, remote, or poor remote places may never be counted. As climate change accelerates, the yearly count will climb too. Considering the response to pandemics and wars, properly quantifying the number of people killed may bring proper perspective to the impact of climate change, and hence, policies enacted and acted upon.
