It isn’t always about cars. Electric cars, buses, and trucks make big news. They’re big things with big prices, so they are big industries. But, notice the number of ebikes humming along. In Bloomberg’s annual electric vehicle report, 2/3 of the oil savings are from ebikes and their ilk. (trucks ~2%, buses ~14%, cars ~ 18%, 2&3 wheelers ~67%) This may just be a duh moment as we experience it; but, maybe people are finding out that they don’t need to pay tens of thousands of dollars to own and operate a multi-ton vehicle to go to the store. The change to electric vehicles may be more significant than replacing gas cars with electric cars and more about replacing cars with something more practical. Besides, finding ways around traffic, parking, and storage can be appealing too. Those benefits were there before, but they are benefiting from electrification.
