Climate change is no longer something that shows up as slight bumps in temperature.
The bad news;
“…the average reached $383 million per day for 2010-2019 – almost eight times higher than the $49 million per day taking place in 1970-1979.” – the World Meteorological Organization via the World Economic Forum
The good news is that the number of deaths per decade has decreased: 184,436 deaths in 2010-2019 down from 328,461 in 2000-2009; and much lower than the 666,877 in 1980-1989.
We continue to pollute the world and change its climate, hence the accelerated costs; but the Information Revolution means we have a better understanding of the situation, and can respond more quickly and better.
Unfortunately, if we don’t resolve the core issue we are creating a culture of refugees fleeing from disaster to disaster. That could result in increased costs, or if the disasters become severe enough they could result in increased deaths.
