- The fraction of American children who eventually earn more than their parents fell from 90% after World War II to less than 50% now.
- Instead of crossing the 2C threshold in 2060, the planet will probably hit that in 2030. Instead of the planet warming up by about 3C by 2100, it may hit almost 6C.
- The good news: Jobs are up 228,000, which beat expectations of 195,000. Unemployment remains low, at 4.1%. The not so good news: Job participation remains low, at 62.7%. Wage growth is positive, but only 2.5%.
- 27% of the wealth growth from 1980 has gone to the top 1%.
My initial response to this was “What’s wrong with this picture?” However, in light of the severity of these trends, that response seems trite and inadequate. What’s NOT wrong with this picture?
