Golf courses that try to mimic Scotland without Scotland’s climate require deforestation, or massive irrigation, or both. The environmental impact of golf courses can be enormous – and that can be true in a good way. A golf course is a business, and some businesses fail. In Japan, and possibly other countries, abandoned golf courses are being turned into solar farm. There are great open areas with few trees. The properties already contain some infrastructure, and some are close to population centers. Turning negatives into positives.
