Anecdotes about Welfare Queens convinced many of rampant fraud. It turns out that the anecdotes were exaggerated and uncommon. The greatest welfare frauds convicted have been health care professionals.

A total of 243 people were arrested and charged with stealing $712 million from Medicare. The arrests included 46 doctors, nurses, pharmacy owners, and other medical professionals.

This is the largest take-down, but is representative of the tens of billions of dollars of similar fraud within the system. All the welfare queens combined can’t be as effective as several institutions and organizations that study how to leverage the system. Clean up those crimes and drop health care costs 10%.
