Autonomous vehicles are becoming more enticing every day. The technology is improving. Businesses are more interested for trucking and taxi services. Insurance companies look forward to fewer accidents. People are realizing it will be cheaper to rent or own auto autos instead of ones they have to drive, and they’ll save time too. Not everyone benefits though. Repair shops will have less to do. Governments will receive less income. Licensing, parking, traffic violations all generate revenue that will rapidly diminish even as the need for roads, bridges, and other infrastructure remains nearly constant because the passenger miles traveled will remain nearly constant. So, who pays for the roads after we’ve paid for fleets of new vehicles?
