The International Monetary Fund released a draft report on how much governments subsidize fossil fuels, both extraction and remediation. The new number is $5.3T, $5,300,000,000,000 per year. That’s more than all the health care in the world. That’s $10,000,000 per minute. That’s far more than the renewable energies receive. The article suggests a carbon tax. This is at least a justification for first stopping the pre-extraction subsidies.
