The second largest island in the US has gone 100% renewable thanks to wind and hydro power. The notable aspect is that the island is in Alaska, a place where there’s lots of oil. Despite that, it made more sense to install wind and water turbines for electricity with flywheels for storage (a lot of spinning devices). Result, an island that doesn’t require underwater pipelines, power cables, or fuel deliveries; which is particularly beneficial in the wilderness that is much of Alaska.
