As if Miami didn’t have enough to worry about with hurricanes and storm surges, sea level rise is worrisome because Miami is basically at sea level. Unfortunately, global climate change is causing global sea level rise. Unfortunately for Miami, the local sea level rise is accelerating. Also unfortunately for Miami, as sea level rises, ground water turns salty forcing the closure of wells. Cities rely on fresh water and Miami is seeing salt water come at it from the shore and from below. Mitigation options are limited in such a large city with so little high ground.
