Graphene has wonderful and incredible properties, but almost all of them are theoretical or have only been tested with tiny samples. The folks in Oak Ridge have managed to create patches that are 5cm x 5cm by sandwiching them with plastic. The new material is stronger, but the more important characteristic may be that creating such a composite only requires using 1/50th the graphene. Using so much less graphene makes the materials far more marketable in terms of money and launch schedule.
