Arachnaphobes have probably not clicked through. Good; because, as if walking into a spider web wasn’t icky enough, scientists have found ways to make spiders spin silk that is three times stronger. Graphene’s properties are being investigated in many industries and sciences. A biologist sprayed a bunch of spiders with the material. Those that survived, and not all did, produced silk up to 3 times stronger than natural. One of the manufacturing hurdles with graphene and carbon nanotubes has been producing them at scale. Spiders are amazingly efficient at producing long extrusions of high tensile strength material. Evidently, the spiders have solved the problem, somehow. The research will continue. Sorry, houseflies.
