Two truths in a paradox. Media reports that the US economy is recovering. Opposition media reports that people are struggling. Both are correct. The country is doing fine, but median incomes aren’t. The production of goods and services is increasing, but the median wage is stagnating. Wages aren’t stagnating. The statistic of ‘median wage’ is stagnating. If wages above that number increase by the same amount that wages below that number decrease, then the median can remain the same – even as the middle incomes evaporate. A trend that can not continue for long.
