Autonomous automobiles are becoming real. While some drivers will want to drive, just as some drivers want manual transmissions, 44% of drivers are willing to give up and let the car drive itself; especially, if their car insurance drops. This is not an all or nothing event. Insurers are already discounting insurance for drivers who use smart assists in traffic management, parking, and collision avoidance. Just like power steering, power brakes, and automatic transmissions, self-driving cars may become the norm within a decade.
