Marijuana is only legal in a few US states, but the Mexican cartels are already seeing the impact. Legal production within the US is up 74%. Cross-border seizures are down 32%. Less drug money means less for cartels to spend on supplies and payouts. Cartel related deaths in Mexico are down from 23,000 to under 16,000. Part of the trend is from enhanced enforcement; but as legalization increases legal income will increase and illegal activities will become unsustainable.
