One of the causes of poverty has been the lack of adequate infrastructure. The rise of mobile telephones, LEDs, solar power and other technologies are enabling energy and services to be delivered directly to previously disconnected people. Economies improve because people get electricity more cheaply, while also skipping middlemen for distributing their goods. Health improves because burning less fossil fuels means less pollution. They aren’t panaceas, but they are a dramatic improvement.
