Sea level rise didn’t wait until the news reported it. The seas have been rising for decades. Around Florida, the sea level has risen about a half a foot since 1960. Flooding in Florida is already happening more frequently, as storm waters can’t discharge the excess to the ocean at high tide. With the rise accelerating, and with 80% of Florida’s revenue generated along its shoreline, Florida is becoming the test case in how to manage or adapt to climate change.
