We are reaching a critical stage in human technological development. There are no guarantees, but there are strong suggestions that life span may increase by more than a year every year. If that’s so, there are people who will be immortal, though maybe not invulnerable. Accidents happen. The technology is close enough and promising enough that people who are rich enough are funding the research, partly so they can live forever. If they succeed, humanity will have reached a biological singularity when everything changes – though, it may only change for those rich enough to buy the treatments.
