Hurricane Sandy had a storm surge that flooded parts of New York’s subway. As the water receded, or was pumped out, it left unexpected microbes. Sea level rise doesn’t just bring in more water. It brings in more life, and sometimes that life is unhealthy. Building dikes and dams is one issue, but we may need new biological defenses as well.
