The Doomsday clock dates back to the real fears of nuclear holocaust. It doesn’t get as much attention since the end of the Soviet Union, but global catastrophes continue to threaten. The clock has clicked closer to midnight, now from environmental hazards. The last time it was this close to midnight was 1983. The possibility of environmental collapse as of 2015 is the same as the possibility of nuclear annihilation at a peak in the Cold War.
