Make surfaces that are frictionless and they are more likely to remain clean, sanitary, and ice-free. Do it by texturing the surface and it means no added chemicals. One big step has been to make surfaces that are so good at repelling water that it doesn’t even bead up, but instead bounces off. Very good for hospitals and airplane wings. Maybe eventually good for windshields and toilets – and terrible for cocktail glasses.
