Artificial intelligence was a concept, then a prototype, and now is a reality. It may seem far off because as it has advanced we’ve moved the bar higher. Years ago we passed the first definitions of AI’s initial capabilities, as long as it was within a narrow skill set like translation. If AI becomes smarter than a human in as many aspects as human thought, then it will be too late to do anything except our fate. If AI becomes AC, Artificial Consciousness, before we consider and possibly design for the implications, then faith in fate or destiny will be our main hope.
