The carbon dioxide accumulating in our air gets there because we pulled hydrocarbons out of the ground. Complicated debates about alternatives come down to the simple, though painful, solution; leave the oil, gas, and coal in the ground. Replacing the energy produced, well, that’s another problem; but one that is finding more and better solutions every day.
