Ebola is not the only candidate for pandemics, sorry to say. Another malady, NDM, is anti-biotic resistant, and is spreading. The issue isn’t Ebola versus NDM. The issue is that in a connected world with significant travel, diseases can travel and we are all connected biologically to parts of the planet that were isolated a century ago. If treatments aren’t effective, then we may have to retreat to the era of regular quarantines or risk larger infections. The time to prepare is before the spread, not during. We tend to focus on one threat, regardless of whether it is the most significant. More general protections are necessary.
